Just 15 minutes from Alghero, you’ll find Agriglamping Butterfly House Sardegna. In the countryside of Olmedo, you can spend the night here almost literally among the butterflies.
The Butterfly House itself is the heart of the park and its main attraction. It is the only biosphere reserve in Sardinia; hundreds of tropical butterflies flutter about and reproduce there. A unique 5-hectare park. You can easily spend a whole day at Butterfly House Sardinia; take a dip in the pool after your visit and enjoy the simple, authentic dishes at the restaurant.
At the park—which covers 5 hectares—you can also simply take a walk through the meadows and the Mediterranean “maquis” (shrubs typical of Sardinia) and seek out the rose garden, a peaceful spot. For the little ones, there’s a large playground with a pirate ship, a miniature train, and slides.
New for 2024 are the Glamping tents, each equipped with private bathroom facilities. There are 7 Glamping accommodations on the grounds, suitable for 2 to 7 people. Each tent has its own refrigerator, air conditioning, bedding, and a bathroom with a shower, hair dryer, and toiletries provided upon arrival. Some tents have cooking facilities, and all tents have a porch with seating.
After a walk through the lush tropical forest or a day of sightseeing in Sardinia, you can relax in the shade of the pergolas or the centuries-old olive trees. Take a refreshing dip in the pool—perfect for all ages thanks to its wide “shallow end.”
The park and its buildings benefit from biological pest control and systems designed to reduce water consumption. They were created by reusing materials from former flower nurseries; recycled wood from construction projects and stones from recycled agricultural land were used.
A unique opportunity to discover a slice of the tropics that has been transplanted to the Mediterranean. Impressive specimens of Ficus benjamina (weeping fig) and Strelitzia nicolai (bird-of-paradise flower), and unusual palm species serve as a backdrop for the numerous other “understory” species and multicolored blooms, where you can admire butterflies as they search for nectar.
The biosphere simulates a typical rainforest ecosystem, such as those found in certain regions on various continents. The optimal temperature and humidity conditions enable the development and growth of many tropical plants from different parts of the world; the biosphere provides the ideal habitat for butterflies and tropical insects.
At Glamping Butterfly House, the butterflies are joined by stick insects from tropical countries. With their spectacular camouflage abilities and techniques, they challenge you to spot them.
The park is also open to visitors who aren’t staying overnight (for a fee), but staying in the glamping accommodations naturally makes it even more special.
Glamping Butterfly House Sardinia has received significant international recognition from Friends of the Earth for the sustainability of its operations. In 2023, the butterfly biosphere was certified for its effective management of the entire complex and as the ideal environment for live specimens of the Lepidoptera butterflies it hosts. These butterflies can fly freely in a tropical garden thanks to the perfect recreation of their native habitat.
Glamping Butterfly House is ideally located for exploring northwestern Sardinia. Alghero Marina is 12 km away. The Nuraghe di Palmavera is 20 km away, and Capo Caccia is 30 km away.
Glamping Butterfly House Sardinia has a partnership with the ferry companies Moby Lines and Tirrenia. If you book with the glamping site by May 31, you can receive a discount code from them for the ferry crossing (ranging from 5–20% depending on the time of year).
