Langsua was officially designated a national park in 2011. It is one of the newer national parks in Norway, but its landscape feels as though it has remained unchanged for centuries. The park covers over 537 km\u00b2 in the heart of Norway\u2019s Innlandet region, between Gudbrandsdalen and Valdres. The terrain is gentler and more accessible than in Jotunheimen, but no less impressive. Day 1: Arrival in Liomseter<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Take the train from Oslo to Lillehammer, then the bus to Liomseter. Arrive at the DNT lodge, which will serve as our base for the first and last nights of the trip. Pick up your welcome kit, get acquainted with the park, and have dinner at the lodge. A peaceful start to what lies ahead. <\/p>\n\n

Day 2: Exploring the area around Liomseter: Nordre Suluh\u00f8gda <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

The first day of hiking is intentionally kept short: an 8-kilometer warm-up hike to the summit of Nordre Suluh\u00f8gda. The route offers varied views of V\u00e5gskardfjellet, Djuptjernkampen, and the Revsj\u00f8ene. A mix of forest trails and open plateaus. Ideal for getting a feel for the Norwegian hiking rhythm before you\u2019re on your own for the next few days. <\/p>\n\n

Day 3: From Liomseter to Haldorbu<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Today you\u2019ll leave Liomseter and the real hike begins. The trail winds through peaceful forests and open meadows with views of the surrounding valleys. The destination is Haldorbu: a DNT cabin with a rich history, once a shepherd\u2019s hut, renovated in 1993 and expanded in 2023 with a brand-new modern main cabin. The old cabin is still reserved for the shepherds themselves every fall. In the evening, you\u2019ll cook your own meal using the supplies provided in the cabin. <\/p>\n\n

Day 4: From Haldorbu to Skriurusten <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

11 km \/ 4\u20135 hours<\/em><\/p>\n\n

The shortest day of the hike, but by no means the least impressive. The trail climbs to 1,400 meters, the highest mountain pass in Langsua. If you\u2019re up for more, you can continue on the unmarked trail to the summit of S\u00f8re Langsua (+150 m). Then a gentle descent through birch forest to Skriurusten, a simple cabin on the edge of the forest with sweeping views of the valley. A place to catch your breath. <\/p>\n\n

Day 5: From Skriurusten to Storh\u00f8liseter <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

Today you\u2019ll hike just above the tree line, heading northeast. The terrain is undulating and open; on a clear day, you can see the green valleys, large mountain lakes, and, in the distance, the peaks of Jotunheimen and Dovre. Your destination is Storh\u00f8liseter: a traditional summer farm in a picturesque valley, featuring a DNT cabin and a building over 300 years old. Spending the night in a place with such a rich history adds a special touch to the evening. <\/p>\n\n

Day 6: From Storh\u00f8liseter to Storkvolvbua <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

13 km \/ 5\u20136 hours<\/em><\/p>\n\n

Today you head south and follow the trail over smaller mountain passes. There\u2019s a bit more elevation gain than in previous days (500 meters in total), but it\u2019s manageable. Storkvolvbua is a small, secluded DNT cabin by a mountain stream. The big plus: nearby is a natural swimming spot in the stream, known as a \u201cbadekulp.\u201d After a day of hiking, that\u2019s a wonderfully rewarding feeling. <\/p>\n\n

Day 7: From Storkvolvbua to Liomseter <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

The longest day takes you back to the starting point. The hike begins with a gentle climb into the open mountain landscape, followed by a descent into the forested valleys around Liomseter. The circle is complete. After a week of self-catering huts, this is truly welcome: a hot shower, a served dinner, and a real bed with linens. <\/p>\n\n

Day 8: Departure for Oslo<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

After breakfast, the bus departs from Liomseter for Lillehammer, where you\u2019ll board the train to Oslo. A packed lunch will be provided for the trip. <\/p>\n\n

Staying overnight in Langsua National Park: self-catering cabins as an experience<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n

You\u2019ll spend four of the seven nights in self-catering cabins run by the DNT<\/a> (the Norwegian Tourist Association). That means: cooking your own meals with the supplies provided in the cabin, using dry outdoor toilets, and no running water inside the cabin itself. It sounds spartan; the reality is quite different. The cabins are well-stocked, the app provides recipes and instructions, and the atmosphere (just you, the silence, and a small gas stove) is hard to beat. <\/p>\n\n

Liomseter is the exception: the DNT lodge that serves as the starting and ending point is fully serviced, with a restaurant, shared bathrooms, and bedding included. A sleeping bag liner is required for the huts along the route. You can reserve one in advance and pick it up at Liomseter. <\/p>\n\n

You can safely leave any excess luggage at Liomseter. The DNT huts are accessible only on foot, so daily luggage transport is not possible. You\u2019ll only be carrying your daypack along the way. <\/p>\n\n
