The view of Mount Etna was fascinating—it never looked the same for a single moment. The rooms are wonderfully spacious, bright, and tastefully decorated. The hostess, Irene, goes out of her way to make sure you’re comfortable—especially when it comes to the food. I even helped her pick the last of the tomatoes from the vegetable garden. It’s a serene spot tucked away near Mount Etna.

On the northwest side of Mount Etna—in Bronte, the pistachio town par excellence—lies La Fucina di Vulcano. It’s a small-scale, resort-style property (just 9 rooms) with large windows facing the volcano, a spacious garden, and a restaurant where Mount Etna literally serves as the backdrop. The name playfully references the mythical “forge” of Vulcano and the cyclops Bronte: today, it is a forge of hospitality and flavor.

A sense of peace and nature

This is one of those places where the outdoors and indoors blend seamlessly: glass facades, a garden with water features, and, in the distance, Mount Etna and the forests stretching toward the Nebrodi Mountains. You come here for peace and quiet, the view, and good food (in that order). The place exudes personal attention; owner Irene Foti and her team are committed to warmth and quality. From here, you’ll experience Mount Etna in a different way, far from mass tourism.

Tasting: Etna on Your Plate

The cuisine is distinctly seasonal and locally sourced; think Bronte pistachios, flavorful olive oil, and mushrooms from the surrounding area. In the fine-dining restaurant, you’ll dine in a stylish dining room with panoramic windows; the menu blends classic Sicilian flavors with modern touches. From the restaurant’s own vegetable garden

Tip: When making a reservation, ask about vegetarian or gluten-free options; they are usually available.

9 rooms at the Etna Boutique Hotel

La Fucina di Vulcano has 9 rooms spread over 2 floors (elevator available). The rooms are spacious, bright, and decorated in a minimalist style. A spacious bathroom and a balcony overlooking the garden round out your stay.

A Touch of Sustainability

La Fucina di Vulcano places a strong emphasis on sustainability. Combine that with a kitchen that embraces the short supply chain, and you have a place to stay that fits perfectly with Slow travel. 40% of the fruits and vegetables served in the restaurant come from their own fertile soil (the vegetable garden is passionately tended by Irene).

Things to Do in the Area

Hike the quiet western flank: lava fields, chestnut forests, and sweeping views—all without the crowds of Taormina.

Nelson’s Castle (Castello di Maniace): a historic estate located about 13 km from Bronte, which pairs nicely with a pistachio tasting.

Circumetnea Ride: Hop on for a picturesque, leisurely ride past vineyards and lava flows.

Bronte, the pistachio town: visit in the fall for the Pistacchio Festival (usually late September/early October; exact dates vary by year). In 2025, it took place in early October; as far as has been announced so far, the 2025 festival weekends appear to be in mid-October. Always check the local program.

Read more here about the beautiful nature in Sicily

Practical Information

Rooms: 9, modern and comfortable with minimalist decor

Address: Contrada Difesa – S.S. 284, Bronte (CT)

Restaurant: fine dining upstairs, seasonal cuisine featuring local ingredients.
