The Langhe, famous for its wine, truffles, and rolling hills, invites you to explore—on foot, by bike, or by car. Below are my favorite day trips and highlights:

1. Picturesque villages (and their viewpoints)

La Morra
Just a few kilometers from Vineho. The view from the Belvedere di La Morra lookout point is breathtaking: you can see the entire Barolo Valley spread out before you. Perfect at sunset. Tip: Visit the colorful Cappella del Barolo, a charming little chapel nestled among the vineyards.

Monforte d’Alba
Medieval town center, winding streets, cozy wine bars. There’s a relaxed atmosphere here. In the summer, there’s the jazz festival Monfortinjazz takes place in an amphitheater nestled among the hills.

Barolo
—the wine capital. Visit the Wine Museum (WiMu) at Castello Falletti, featuring interactive exhibits on wine, culture, and the landscape.

2. Wineries & Wine Tastings

Here you’ll find the best small family-run wineries. Well-known grape varieties include Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto. Taste Nebbiolo and learn more about the craft. You can also book a tour through Vineho. Sustainability tip: choose wineries that use organic or biodynamic methods. Tours are often combined with tastings in cellars steeped in centuries-old traditions.

3. Hiking & Nature

Sentieri dei Cru di Barolo
A network of hiking trails that take you through the vineyards, past historic wine-growing areas (cru’s), farms, and churches. Starting points can be found in La Morra, Barolo, and Verduno, among other places.

Alta Langa
A little farther away, but more rugged and quieter. Here you’ll hike past forests, small rivers, and—in the right season—truffle hunters.
Tip: Take a walk from Murazzano to Monesiglio to experience true silence.

Hazelnut Fields & Orchards
The area around Vineho is full of small nature trails. Ask at Vineho about their “Percorso Natura”: perfect for a morning walk with scenic views.

4. Local Markets & Gastronomy

Alba (25 min)
A charming town, famous for its white truffles. Every Saturday there is a market featuring local products (cheese, salami, bread, truffle products).
In October, the town hosts the International Truffle Fair, a feast for foodies.

Bra (Slow Food City)
Birthplace of the Slow Food movement. Here you can taste true quality: think of raw-milk cheeses such as Robiola, Toma, or Castelmagno.

Cherasco
Famous for its antique markets, but also for chocolate and snails (the culinary kind, that is). A beautiful Baroque town.

5. Truffle Hunt & Workshops

In the fall, you can take part in a guided truffle hunt in the region. You’ll walk with a trifolao (truffle hunter) and his dog, learn about the ecology of truffles, and often end with a truffle tasting.

6. Day Trips Outside the Langhe

Turin (1.5-hour drive)
A city with Baroque squares, coffee shops, museums, and views of the Alps.
Combine slow travel with a day of urban culture.

Liguria / coast (2-hour drive)
In just a few hours, you’ll be on the Riviera of Flowers. A great option if you’re staying in Piedmont for several weeks.

Practical Tips & Best Time to Visit Vineho

When to go: Spring (May–June) and early fall (September) are ideal: the weather is mild, the vineyards are beautifully colored, and there are fewer crowds.

What to bring: Hiking/cycling gear, sturdy shoes, layers of clothing (evenings can get chilly), sunscreen, a guidebook or wine glossary (in Italian) for interacting with locals.

Sustainable travel tip: Try to eat locally, visit family-run businesses, avoid excessive packaging, sort your trash, and respect nature trails and quiet areas.

Why Vineho is sustainable and a good fit for NatureTravelLab

Vineho is surrounded by nature: you’ll be staying right in the vineyards, far from busy areas.

Vineho was built using “green” construction techniques and ecological and naturally sustainable materials to minimize its environmental impact.
