In about a five-hour drive from the Dutch border, you\u2019ll find yourself in the dark forests of the <strong>Hochschwarzwald<\/strong>; three hours further on, you\u2019ll roll into the rolling vineyards of <strong>Burgundy<\/strong>. And we had a delicious meal. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Accommodations:<\/strong> <em>Hotel Die Halde<\/em>. Perched high on the ridge with panoramic views of the valleys. It\u2019s wonderful to unwind after the ride in the spa or with a good dinner.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>A nice touch:<\/strong> the hotel generates its own electricity and heat using a combined heat and power (CHP) system and draws drinking water from the spring on the Haldek\u00f6pfle.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Practical Tips  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Check in before sunset to catch that golden-hour view.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bring a <strong>reusable bottle<\/strong>; tap water is great.  <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 2: Schauinsland Panorama Tour (\u00b110 km)<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From an altitude of about 1,000 m, on a clear day you can even see as far as the Feldberg. We chose a different high peak: Schauinsland. The <strong>Schauinsland Panorama Trail<\/strong> isn\u2019t a flat stroll, but it\u2019s manageable because the trails are wide and easy to walk on. There are benches all along the way where you can sit and take in the views and spot <strong>red kites<\/strong>. It\u2019s especially impressive amid all that greenery. You descend steadily for hours toward the <strong>Schauinslandbahn<\/strong> valley station. There are several routes down to the valley; we chose the one on the left side of the little river, a hike that takes a few hours. A leisurely drive of about 3 hours takes you to <strong>Gevrey-Chambertin<\/strong>, just south of Dijon on the <strong>Route des Grands Crus<\/strong>. Sun-drenched vineyards and <strong>sunflower fields<\/strong> dominate the landscape here; in the village, you\u2019ll immediately sense the Burgundian atmosphere.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Sleep &amp; Food<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Choose a <strong>small-scale, intimate place to stay<\/strong> among the vineyards.
