Fj\u00e4lln\u00e4s is Sweden\u2019s oldest winter sports destination. Since as far back as 1882, adventurous travelers have been coming to this remote spot in the far north. Located in the breathtaking Fun\u00e4sfj\u00e4llen<\/strong> mountain range, on the border with Norway, this is the place to be if you\u2019re looking for peace and quiet, nature, and authentic winter experiences. <\/p>\n\n

What else makes Fj\u00e4lln\u00e4s so unique? It\u2019s one of Scandinavia\u2019s largest winter sports regions, yet it never feels crowded. Here, there are no long lines or overcrowded slopes, just vast snow-covered plains, cozy lodges, and personalized service. <\/p>\n\n

Chance of Seeing the Northern Lights <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

From September through April, you have a good chance of seeing the Northern Lights<\/strong> here. There\u2019s no guarantee, but the chances are real, especially in this remote location with little light pollution. Hans and Winnifred will keep a close eye out for you. In winter (around Christmas), it\u2019s light from about 8:30 a.m. to about 2:30 p.m. You\u2019ll experience beautiful light during this time\u2014the \u201cblue hour.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Camping Fj\u00e4lln\u00e4s<\/a> offers 6 lodges. During this winter trip, you\u2019ll stay in a comfortable 4-person lodge (36 m\u00b2) at the campground. It features a living room, kitchen, bathroom, and one bedroom (1 double bed and 2 single beds). Bed linens, towels, and final cleaning are included. <\/p>\n\n

Saturday: Arrival in Fj\u00e4lln\u00e4s<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n

From Trondheim, it\u2019s about a 2.5-hour drive to Fj\u00e4lln\u00e4s. You can also travel from Oslo (by car and ferry or by plane). You can reserve a hot meal with Winnifred and Hans, as well as a grocery delivery service for the first 2 days. <\/p>\n\n

Sunday: Snowshoe hike with an outdoor lunch<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n

After arriving on Saturday, you\u2019ll head out into the white wilderness for the first time on Sunday. Wearing snowshoes, you\u2019ll hike through the quiet mountain landscape, where the only sound is the crunch of snow beneath your feet. Along the way, you\u2019ll warm up by a crackling wood fire while enjoying an outdoor lunch. In the afternoon, relax and warm up in the sauna. <\/p>\n\n

Monday: Meeting the Sami and their reindeer<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n

One of the most special days: you\u2019ll learn about the culture of the Sami, Europe\u2019s oldest indigenous people. You\u2019ll follow the beautiful route on your own in your own (rental) car (approx. 90 km). You\u2019ll receive the route, an app, and information about Sami culture. You\u2019ll visit reindeer herder Joar in his traditional Sami hut (k\u00e5ta), help feed the reindeer, and even learn how to catch a reindeer with a lasso. <\/p>\n\n

Tuesday: Husky Sled Ride & R\u00f6ros (UNESCO)<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n

Do you dream of owning your own dog sled? Today, you\u2019ll get to drive one yourself! You\u2019ll make your own way to the husky kennel. After an 8-km husky sled ride through the Norwegian forests\u2014the entire experience takes about 2.5 hours\u2014you\u2019ll visit the charming mining town of R\u00f6ros (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), known for Pippi Longstocking<\/em> and Home for Christmas<\/em>. There are nice little restaurants for lunch and shops for souvenirs. <\/p>\n\n

Wednesday: Cross-country skiing with fika<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n

Cross-country skiing is Sweden\u2019s national winter sport. Fun\u00e4sfj\u00e4llen is a true cross-country skiing paradise. After a brief introduction by Winnifred, you\u2019ll go on a beautiful tour through relatively easy terrain. Of course, there will be fika (coffee with a treat) and lunch along the way! Back at the lodge, you can relax in the sauna or in your cabin. <\/p>\n\n

Thursday: Snowmobiles & Ice Fishing<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n

An absolute highlight: a spectacular snowmobile tour across the \u201ckalfj\u00e4ll.\u201d Hans will guide you on this ride in two-seater snowmobiles. The tour includes a helmet, warm clothing, and a waffle break at a mountain hut. You\u2019ll be back around noon, when you can go ice fishing on the frozen lake near the campground. <\/p>\n\n

Tip<\/strong>: Book dinner at a remote mountain cabin. On Thursday or Friday evenings, you can enjoy dinner at a remote cabin. You\u2019ll be taken there and picked up again by a snowmobile taxi. It\u2019s a charming candlelit experience featuring local dishes. Be sure to book this! <\/p>\n\n

Friday: Skiing in T\u00e4nndalen or Fun\u00e4sdalen<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n

Time to go skiing! You can already see the slopes from the campground. 45 kilometers of groomed slopes and a fun park. You can choose from several ski areas, accessible by car or ski bus (which stops right in front of the campground). <\/p>\n\n

Saturday: departure<\/h2>\n\n

After an impressive week, the winter adventure has come to an end. After breakfast, take your time packing, and you can go for a short walk or try your hand at ice fishing. If you\u2019re heading back from Trondheim, it\u2019s another drive of about 2.5 hours. <\/p>\n\n
