We\u2019ve picked out the most beautiful spots. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Highlights of Valle Maira  <\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Rocca Provenzale and Borgata Chiappera  <\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Rocca Provenzale is an immensely tall rock that rises vertically from the meadows behind Chiappera. Chiappera is the last village you\u2019ll come across in the higher-altitude region. In the summer, it\u2019s a beautiful area for hiking and climbing; in the winter, it\u2019s a skier\u2019s paradise. It\u2019s a pristine, small mountain lake surrounded by green shores, pine trees, and rocks. The lake is located just past Marmora, near the Colle-del-Mulo road. It was originally a glacial lake. On clear days, you can see Mount Monviso to the north from here.     <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Borgata San Martino di Stroppo<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The last little hamlet on the road to Elva. It\u2019s in a fascinating location on the mountainside. The interior is open to visitors only on Sundays in August, but it is well worth a visit for its 14th-century paintings and frescoes.   <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Ponte del Diavolo in Dronero<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Devil&#8217;s Bridge in Dronero, dating from 1428. A medieval drawbridge\u2014a masterpiece of its time\u2014steeped in history and legends. The reserve\u2019s name is derived from the Piedmontese term \u201cCiciu &#8216;d pera\u201d (stone doll). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ciciudelvillar.areeprotettealpimarittime.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The area<\/a> is open to visitors year-round, including guided tours, and features beautiful hiking trails.    <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Rocca la Meja and the Gardetta Plateau<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you want to travel back in time, or are you fascinated by dinosaurs? Then pay a visit to the Gardetta Plateau. Huge dinosaur footprints dating back millions of years have been found here. It remains an active research site to this day.     <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open every Saturday and Sunday from early July through mid-September, and daily from August 9 through August 20, with a shuttle service from Grangia Selvest in Preit.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/naturetravellab.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Autunno_Corsa-217-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-13827\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/naturetravellab.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Autunno_Corsa-217-980x654.jpg 980w, https:\/\/naturetravellab.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/09\/Autunno_Corsa-217-480x320.jpg 480w\" sizes=\"(min-width: 0px) and (max-width: 480px) 480px, (min-width: 481px) and (max-width: 980px) 980px, (min-width: 981px) 1024px, 100vw\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The plateau lies at an altitude of 2,000 meters and is dominated by the Dolomite peak Rocca la Meja. It is one of the most beautiful mountains in the Cuneo Alps, featuring the remains of military settlements. You can reach the summit via a fairly easy trail. It\u2019s a wonderful hike with stunning views.     <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Fremo Cuncun\u00e0<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A remarkable rock formation in Elva, in the village of Colle San Giovanni, offering\u2014once again\u2014a breathtaking view. Nearby stands the chapel of San Giovanni, which shares the same name. This spot is certainly reminiscent of <a href=\"https:\/\/naturetravellab.com\/noorwegen\/auto-rondreis-zuid-noorwegen\/#Dag3Preikestolenhike\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/naturetravellab.com\/noorwegen\/auto-rondreis-zuid-noorwegen\/#Dag3Preikestolenhike\">Preikestolen<\/a> in Norway. In addition to this protruding rock, Fremo Cuncun\u00e0 is actually a group of rocks with a very unique shape: that of a crouching woman, known in Occitan as \u201cFremo Cuncun\u00e0.\u201d By the way, the best view of the crouching woman is from the Vallone di Elva road!      <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The Stroppia Waterfall, the highest in Italy<\/strong> <\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A relatively unknown waterfall, but the highest in Italy. With a drop of nearly 500 meters, it\u2019s a spectacular sight. You can hike up to it, but it\u2019s quite a challenge. The area is a popular destination for trail running, hiking, and walking. It offers a wide range of possibilities and challenges, such as the Via Ferrata, but there\u2019s also plenty to enjoy for less experienced hikers.
