Sulfur, steam, and hot rock set the tone here. Everything feels elemental: black sand, barren slopes, and a crater that constantly reminds you it\u2019s still alive.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For me, Vulcano isn&#8217;t an island to stay on for long, but it is a place you can&#8217;t miss if you&#8217;re interested in nature, geology, and hiking on active volcanoes. The trail is: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Steep, but short (about 3 hours)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Easy to navigate<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Spectacular for its views and scents<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">From upstairs, you can look out over:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Lipari<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Salina<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The Tyrrhenian Sea<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Tip:<\/strong> Go early in the morning or later in the afternoon. It can get extremely hot during the day, and there\u2019s very little shade. The trail to the crater is generally open from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. and from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., but be sure to check the signs carefully beforehand. Although these sites are popular, they are also vulnerable. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>My advice:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Make a conscious choice<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid busy times<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Please respect barriers and follow instructions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can swim at several spots along the coast, often with a view of the crater slopes.<\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"background-color:#eeeee8\">\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Practical Tips for Vulcano<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>How many days?<\/strong><br\/>1 to 2 days is usually enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Transportation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Everything is relatively close by<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Easily accessible on foot or by (e-)scooter<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Safety<\/strong><br\/>: Volcanic activity may vary. Always follow local instructions and the latest advisories. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Be sure to also read the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/naturetravellab.com\/italie\/sicilie\/eolische-eilanden\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"3425\">practical tips for the Aeolian Islands<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Vulcano or Stromboli?<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Vulcano:<\/strong> accessible, short visit, sulfur &amp; crater<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Stromboli:<\/strong> intense, active, nighttime eruptions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many travelers combine a visit to the island with a trip to Lipari or Stromboli to enjoy the contrast.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Sustainable travel on Vulcano<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Limit the length of your visit, but make the most of it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stay on the trails<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Avoid busy peak times<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It is precisely because of the landscape\u2019s vulnerability that sustainable behavior is essential here.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Don&#8217;t miss it<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Spiaggia delle Acque Calde: Near the small harbor is a hot-water beach, Spiaggia delle Acque Calde, where you can take a mud bath. Thanks to underwater geothermal activity, the water there is warm.
