You have the freedom of your own transportation, can stop at the most beautiful spots, and it feels good to engage in sustainable travel. Especially in rural areas\u2014where public transportation isn\u2019t as well-developed\u2014having your own electric car is a godsend.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">What&#8217;s more, charging on the go is getting easier and easier, and with the right preparation, you won&#8217;t have to worry about a thing.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Charging Station Network on Its Way to Italy<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Germany: Fast Charging Along the Autobahn<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Germany is a great country to travel through in an EV. Southern Germany, in particular, has plenty of fast chargers, such as those from <strong>Ionity<\/strong>, <strong>EnBW<\/strong>, or <strong>Shell Recharge<\/strong>. Use apps like:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Chargemap<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Plugsurfing<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Shell Recharge<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"background-color:#eeeee8\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>TIPS for driving an electric car to Italy:  <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul style=\"background-color:#eeeee8\" class=\"wp-block-list has-background\">\n<li><em>Check in advance to see if your charging card works abroad. For example, you can get a card from the ANWB that is accepted almost everywhere in Europe. <\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>Search for \u201claadpalen\u201d or \u201ccharging stations\u201d on Google Maps, filter by fast chargers, and select your plug type.<\/em><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><em>The hilly terrain in southern Italy can affect your driving range. Use eco-driving mode if your battery is draining quickly. <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>A small effort, a big difference: by driving an electric vehicle, you can reduce your CO\u2082 emissions by about 50\u201370% compared to a gasoline-powered car.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Austria and Switzerland: Charging in the Alps<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Charging stations are also easy to find in <a href=\"https:\/\/naturetravellab.com\/en\/category\/austria\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/naturetravellab.com\/category\/oostenrijk\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Austria<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/naturetravellab.com\/en\/category\/switzerland\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/naturetravellab.com\/category\/zwitserland\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Switzerland<\/a>, particularly along highways and at tourist hubs. Tesla Superchargers here are often open to other brands as well. Regions such as <strong>Lombardy<\/strong>, <strong>Veneto<\/strong>, <strong>Emilia-Romagna<\/strong>, and <strong>Tuscany<\/strong> are well-served. Here you\u2019ll find:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Public charging stations in cities and towns<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fast chargers along the highways (6.8 charging points per 100 km)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Charging stations at many hotels and agritourism properties<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Use apps like <strong>Next Charge<\/strong>, <strong>BeCharge<\/strong>, <strong>Tesla<\/strong>, or <strong>Google Maps<\/strong> to find nearby charging stations.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Charging an Electric Car in Italy<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These days, you can find charging stations for electric cars just about everywhere in Italy. That is to say, mainly in the north. Northern Italy is home to more than 50% of the country\u2019s charging stations. There are many charging stations in Lombardy, Piedmont, Veneto, Emilia-Romagna, Tuscany, and Lazio; in central Italy, about 21%; and in the south\u2014including the islands of Sicily and Sardinia\u201423%. In principle, you can find a charging station within a 20-km radius throughout Italy. In urban areas, the network of charging stations has been significantly expanded. On highways, there are an average of 6.8 charging points per 100 km, and the number of charging stations continues to grow. The Campania region, in particular, is currently undergoing significant expansion. A large part of Sicily remains uncovered, and there are limited facilities in Sardinia and Calabria.        <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With Next Charge, Chargemap, or Shell Recharge, you can easily find all the charging stations in Italy. These providers have public fast-charging stations in Italy: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Nextcharge  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Enel  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/tesla360.nl\/tesla-superchargers-italie-waar-kun-je-laden\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/tesla360.nl\/tesla-superchargers-italie-waar-kun-je-laden\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Tesla Supercharger<\/a><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>BeCharge<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Ionity<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Traveling to Southern Italy and Sicily in an electric car<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Southern Italy isn&#8217;t quite as well-served, but it&#8217;s definitely doable with a little planning:  <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Campania<\/strong> (Naples, Amalfi) is rapidly expanding its network.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Calabria<\/strong>, <strong>Basilicata<\/strong>, and <strong>Molise<\/strong>, charging stations are still few and far between\u2014be sure to plan your route carefully.  <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <strong>Sicily<\/strong> and <strong>Sardinia<\/strong>, charging options are limited, but sufficient if you plan your overnight stays at accommodations with charging stations.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Traveling by Electric Car to Regions in Southern Italy<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Campania is currently the region where the most charging stations are being added. Calabria accounts for only 1.6% of all charging stations in Italy, and Sardinia for 3.2%. But Molise, Basilicata, and Abruzzo are also still underserved. Still, with a little preparation, it\u2019s entirely possible to drive your electric car in these regions as well. Fast charging is more expensive than regular charging, and prices vary by provider: <\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Standard charging: an average of \u20ac0.40\u2013\u20ac0.60 per kWh<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fast charging: on average \u20ac0.60\u2013\u20ac0.85 per kWh<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overnight stay on the way to Italy<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you&#8217;re heading to central or southern Italy, South Tyrol is a great place to stop for a few days. You can filter by fast chargers and car type. In Google Maps, type \u201ccharging stations\u201d or \u201claadpalen\u201d into the search bar. Next, you can choose your charging option. If you want to filter by charging power, click on \u201cfast charging.\u201d This is also handy when you\u2019re on the road to Italy.       <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Frequently Asked Questions<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Is it safe to drive an electric car in Italy?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, absolutely. The charging network is reliable and growing. Be sure to plan ahead, and it\u2019s better to charge a little too early than too late.  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Do I need more than one charging card?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One European card is often enough (such as ANWB, Shell, or Plugsurfing), but it doesn&#8217;t hurt to have an extra card as a backup.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Can I drive my EV into the mountains?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Yes, but keep in mind the effect on your range. Regenerative braking on downhill sections helps recover energy. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Can you drive your electric car to Italy?<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">With a little preparation, traveling <strong>to Italy in an electric car<\/strong> is a fantastic experience. You\u2019ll travel comfortably, flexibly, and sustainably\u2014and Europe\u2019s charging infrastructure is fully equipped to handle it. Choose accommodations with charging stations, use the right apps, and enjoy your road trip through Italy\u2019s natural beauty and culture.
