Where necessary, new hiking trails have been built to create a total of about 400 km of hiking paradise. The route runs from Santiago do Cac\u00e9m to Cabo de S\u00e3o Vicente, the southwesternmost point of Europe. It is a 12-stage route that can be traveled on foot or by bike. This trail takes <a href=\"https:\/\/rotavicentina.com\/caminho-historico\/\" target=\"_blank\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/rotavicentina.com\/caminho-historico\/\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">you somewhat inland, through forests, towns, and villages with centuries of history. Here you\u2019ll find all the stages<\/a> of the historic route.   <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>The<\/strong> <strong>Fisherman\u2019s Trail<\/strong>: This route follows the coastline along paths that lead to the beach or small fishing harbors. The total length of the route is approximately 225 km between S\u00e3o Torpes and Lagos. This is a slightly more challenging hiking route, divided into 5 stages and 4 complementary routes. You can hike the route in either direction; both routes are well marked. Signs also indicate areas where hiking is prohibited because they are protected Nature reserves. If you\u2019d like to take the bus for part of the way, the north-to-south route is recommended. Each stage is a maximum of 25 kilometers and can be completed in a single day. The route is well-maintained and expanded annually, so you can always discover something new. You can choose which stages to hike, or you can do them consecutively. In that case, you can also arrange in advance for your luggage to be transported from hotel to hotel so you don\u2019t have to carry it the entire way. Along this route, you\u2019ll enjoy the local (seafood) cuisine of <a href=\"https:\/\/naturetravellab.com\/portugal\/wat-te-zien-in-alentejo-portugal\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"2691\">the Alentejo<\/a> and the Algarve, as the route passes through both regions. Here you\u2019ll find all <a href=\"https:\/\/rotavicentina.com\/trilho-dos-pescadores\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/rotavicentina.com\/trilho-dos-pescadores\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the routes of the Fisherman\u2019s Trail<\/a>.            <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Circular routes<\/strong>: ideal for day hikers. There are 24 loop hikes, each of which brings you back to the same starting point. This makes it easy to do these hikes while staying at a single hotel. For the real die-hards, you can also camp along the route. When hiking the Fisherman\u2019s Trail, keep in mind that you\u2019ll need to add a few extra kilometers to reach the villages where you\u2019ll be spending the night.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What should you bring on the Fisherman\u2019s Trail?<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, or cap<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hiking gear: moisture-wicking clothing, good hiking socks, 2 to 3 liters of water per day, a phone with a GPS app, energy bars or snacks, and (blister) bandages.
