I\u2019ve been coming here for years, and I discover new gems every time. Of course, cities like Florence, Pisa, and Siena are the well-known attractions, but Tuscany has much more to offer. By car, it takes about 13\u201314 hours to get there from the Netherlands, but you can also opt for a more eco-friendly train trip. Tuscany is an ideal destination for slow travel: exploring the region at your own pace and enjoying the local culture, nature, and cuisine.    <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to Tuscany\u2019s rich cultural history, there is also a wealth of natural beauty to discover. Perfect for hiking and biking. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Fall (September\u2013October):<\/strong> warm fall colors, grape harvest, and mild weather. Ideal for outdoor activities. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Winter (November\u2013February):<\/strong> quiet cities and the chance for sunny days. Perfect for cultural and culinary trips. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Summer (June\u2013August):<\/strong> hot inland and crowded in the cities, but wonderful on the coast or with a pool nearby.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Most Beautiful Spots in Tuscany<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are my absolute favorites\u2014places you have to see if you want to explore Tuscany at a leisurely pace:<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. Volpaia<\/strong>: a sleepy little village in the Chianti region with two fantastic restaurants: La Bottega di Volpaia and Osteria Volpaia. Sant\u2019Anna in Camprena (near Pienza)<\/strong>: a 16th-century monastery, known for its appearance in <em>*The English Patient<\/em>*. Art workshops and classical concerts are held here. Abbazia di San Galgano<\/strong>: a mystical monastery ruin with an open roof, famous for the Rotonda di Montesiepi, a chapel with a unique atmosphere. A great spot for photography and summer concerts. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>4. Terme di Saturnia<\/strong>: free thermal springs in a beautiful natural setting. Perfect for relaxing in warm, healing waters. Lucignano<\/strong>: I\u2019ve lost my heart to this sleepy little village. Not far from Arezzo, it\u2019s an architectural gem where you can enjoy watching the old men chatting outside the bar and have a delicious meal at restaurants like La Tavernetta.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>6. Cortona<\/strong>: Unfortunately, it\u2019s gotten a bit more crowded with Americans since the publication of Frances Mayes\u2019 book <em>*Under the Sun*<\/em>, but it\u2019s still well worth a visit. I once happened to end up here by chance at an Andr\u00e9 Rieu concert right in the middle of the square\u2014a fantastic experience! A beautiful monastery set in a picturesque landscape\u2014a photographer&#8217;s dream. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The Diverse Natural Beauty of Tuscany<\/h2>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/naturetravellab.com\/italie\/toscane\/de-mooiste-route-door-de-val-dorcia\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1251\">Val d\u2019Orcia<\/a>:<\/strong> a UNESCO World Heritage Site full of rolling hills and medieval villages such as Pienza and Montalcino.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Garfagnana:<\/strong> a rugged, mountainous region north of Lucca, ideal for leisurely hikes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Maremma:<\/strong> a coastal region home to the Parco dell\u2019Uccellina, perfect for wildlife spotting.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/naturetravellab.com\/en\/italy\/tuscany\/monte-amiata-road-trip-and-tips\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"17541\">Monte Amiata<\/a>:<\/strong> a place full of forests, rivers, and more than 120 species of birds.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tuscany\u2019s natural landscape offers such a variety: mountains, rolling hills, countryside, and wooded areas. There\u2019s a direct overnight train to Basel, where you\u2019ll transfer in Innsbruck and enjoy a beautiful ride through the Alps, then transfer one more time in Bologna to continue on to Florence. Alternatives include routes via Innsbruck, Munich, or Venice. The best option is to take the overnight train from Amsterdam and then change trains in one of these four cities. You can buy tickets through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.oebb.at\/de\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Austrian Railways or <\/a>Deutsche Bahn.      <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Take Your Bike on the Train to Tuscany<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can\u2019t take your bike on all high-speed trains, but you can on regional trains.
