The hotel isn\u2019t located in the heart of Amalfi or Ravello, but on the cliffs between them, in the hamlet of Castiglione. Twelve rooms, the Dipino family\u2014who have been running it for over twenty years\u2014and a place where the sound of the waves is the only alarm clock you\u2019ll ever need.  <\/p>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background is-layout-constrained wp-block-group-is-layout-constrained\" style=\"background-color:#eeeee8\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hotel Villa San Michele is neither a resort nor part of a hotel chain. It is a former private villa from the 1950s, built on the cliff between Amalfi and Ravello, where the family cooks the meals themselves, greets you at the door, and personally recommends the best hiking trail to take that day. <\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Castiglione di Ravello: on the waterfront, between two famous neighbors<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Castiglione is a hamlet that officially belongs to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ravello.com\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ravello.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Ravello<\/strong><\/a> but is located by the sea, right on the SS163 coastal road. Amalfi is about one kilometer away, and Ravello is about five kilometers away. Hotel Villa San Michele is located at the intersection of two SITA bus lines, which allow you to travel further along the coast without a car: to Atrani, Minori, Maiori, or in the other direction toward Positano and Praiano.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you want to explore the Amalfi Coast without having to search for a parking spot all the time, that\u2019s a real advantage. The famous coastal road is narrow, busy, and slow in the summer; you\u2019ll often get there faster by bus or on foot. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">A private villa with a history<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Hotel Villa San Michele began as the private villa of an Italian shipowner, built in the 1950s by a Turkish architect who gave the property its distinctive Arabic details: you can still see them in the arches and other features around the building. For over twenty years, Nicola and Rosa Dipino have been running the hotel as a family business. No chain, no rotating staff: returning guests are greeted by name.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Rooms with a view of the sea<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The hotel has twelve rooms, divided into five categories. Almost every room has its own balcony or terrace with a sea view; only one room has windows. The decor is Mediterranean and functional, rather than opulent. The menu also features local DOC wines and liqueurs, including limoncello. Breakfast is included with your stay and can be customized upon request; half-board and full-board options are available.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Swimming at the foot of the cliffs<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The biggest difference compared to many other hotels along this coast: private access to the sea. A path through the garden, past lemon trees and bougainvillea, and a staircase carved into the rocks leads to a private swimming platform with lounge chairs and umbrellas. So, no swimming pool, but your own peaceful stretch of ocean\u2014something that\u2019s not a given on the busy Amalfi Coast.  <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Hiking Right from Your Front Door<\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Amalfi Coast is at least as well known for its hiking trails as it is for its coastal road.
