North Karelia

The easternmost region of Finland, and at the same time one of the least known: North Karelia. With more than two thousand lakes, endless coniferous forests, and some twenty-four thousand vacation homes, it’s no coincidence that the region is the favorite vacation destination of the Finns themselves. The highlight is Koli National Park, with views from Ukko-Koli Hill overlooking Lake Pielinen, but the rest of the region is just as worth exploring: quiet forests where bears and wolves roam, and villages where time seems to stand still. Get inspired for a trip to North Karelia.
