Erfgoed Bossem: Staying at a Nature-Inclusive Farm in Twente

Erfgoed Bossem is located on the “oale groond” (old land) in Twente. The Rerink family has lived and worked here for centuries, bringing nature, animals, and people together in a harmonious cycle. You can feel the sense of connection—this is pure country life.

Take it easy—”heanig an,” as they say here. And you feel it right away. It just feels right. Here, you find your place and unwind. Space and hospitality, good food and drink, spending time together, and wonderful conversations. Do nothing—or do everything.

The team at Erfgoed Bossem wants you to experience, taste, smell, hear, see, and feel just how wonderful country life is. In addition to the nature-inclusive farm, you can enjoy meals and spend the night here in a unique and sustainable way.

Natural Cycle of Agriculture, Food, and Tourism

Since 2007, Dennis and Annette Rerink, representing the fifth generation, have been managing Erfgoed Bossem. Drawing on their rich family history, everyone at Erfgoed Bossem is committed to preserving the natural cycle. They want to show that the combination of agriculture, food, and tourism can truly be done differently—and better.

Sustainable Local Community

The team works together in the true spirit of “neighborliness.” You can feel the sense of community and the authentic country life. Together, they embody Twente’s hospitality: warm, respectful, and professional. The barn, the fields, and the kitchen are directly connected, so you get nature straight onto your plate. Erfgoed Bossem is a circular farm where the cows can simply “be cows,” surrounded by nature-driven agriculture.

Last but not least, there’s t Huusken. A lovely 4-bedroom vacation home where you can stay with your family or friends. Surrounded by cows and beautiful old trees: Twente at its best.

Good Food: Transparent from Farm to Table

The Twente table d’hôte offers exceptionally delicious food. The farm has strong ties to the Twente region and local produce. Chef Leen prefers pure, unprocessed, seasonal ingredients.

The unique herd of Brandrode cattle produces exceptionally delicious meat, which contributes to biodiversity in Twente. The cows are cared for with respect and dedication.

They have made a conscious decision not to offer an à la carte menu, in order to make the most respectful use possible of what nature provides. In addition to meat from the Brandrode cattle raised on their own circular farm, the chef selects high-quality, local products as much as possible, in keeping with the Slow Food principle: “think global, eat local.”

You can enjoy “whatever’s on the menu” made from high-quality local ingredients at a surprisingly high culinary level. Of course, they take allergies and dietary preferences into account. Five days a week, you can sit down to a “menu du chef” featuring regional ingredients.

Every Saturday at 5 p.m., a mini-tour of the farm begins: learn about what you eat. Meet the unique herd of cattle. You’ll learn all about the nature-inclusive farming methods, the bocage landscape, the family history, and the cultural history of this centuries-old farmstead.
