Kronlund Kursgard: the essence of northern Sweden in summer and winter

Kronlund Kursgard: Nature, History, and Hospitality in Northern Sweden

In 2020, Nick and his wife Anna-Louise began renovating an old school complex dating from 1905—a school, a dormitory, a teachers’ lounge, and outbuildings. Following the extensive renovation, this marked the beginning of Kronlund Kursgard. In 2022, this unique accommodation opened its doors to guests.

The combination of nature, cultural heritage, and the warm, personal hospitality of the (Dutch) owner, Nick, and his wife makes this place unique. It’s a wonderful spot for solo travelers, couples, and families alike. It’s also the perfect location for an active vacation with a group of friends.

You are here in the heart of the Västerbotten region in northern Sweden, surrounded by pristine forests and the protected Vindelälven River. The surroundings invite you to both seek adventure and find peace and quiet. Kronlund Kursgard works with local and sustainable partners and is open year-round.

Kronlund Kursgard in the Vindelälven UNESCO Nature Reserve

In the UNESCO-protected Vindelälven Nature Reserve, you’ll find the Isälvsleden trail: 60 kilometers of hiking trails through the nature reserve. Here, you’ll encounter moose, deer, and roe deer, among other animals. Kronlund Kursgard is located right next to the nature reserve.

Summer and Winter Activities and the Northern Lights

You can enjoy Nordic experiences all year round. Kronlund Kursgard offers pre-planned packages for a unique experience. You can also put together a customized package for your stay.

In winter, the entire area is frozen, and among other things, you can:

  • dog-sledding
  • snowmobiling
  • snowshoeing
  • skiing
  • take ice baths
  • Visit a reindeer farm and meet the Sami people

In the summer, it’s a great place to:

  • Hiking through Isälvsleden National Park
  • mountain biking
  • canoeing
  • whitewater rafting
  • barbecuing

All year round, you can enjoy the sauna, wildlife watching, forest walks, and fishing. And don’t forget to catch a glimpse of the Northern Lights! It’s also a unique spot for a retreat, a small group vacation, or a conference.

Kronlund Kursgard: A Week Full of Experiences

Kronlund Kursgard offers special packages that include activities. Here’s what’s included:

  • A one-week active winter package that includes, for example, dog-sledding, ice skating, and visits to reindeer and the Sami people.
  • The “Summer in the North” package, featuring husky hikes, wildlife viewing, and canoeing, among other activities.

Overnight stay at the school

Kronlund Kursgard offers single and double rooms as well as suites throughout the school grounds. The decor is cozy and functional.

Wina is the former teachers’ residence, featuring a double room and a single room with a shared bathroom and kitchen. It also includes a suite with a private bathroom.

On the second floor, there is a modern apartment that sleeps up to 8 people, featuring 2 bathrooms, a balcony, a kitchenette, and a smart TV.

Elevhemmet is the old student residence. Here, too, you’ll find simple, cozy double rooms, shared bathrooms, a common area to warm up after your daily adventures, and a sauna.

There’s a barbecue hut by the water where you can enjoy the sunset.

Excellent restaurant serving local dishes

The yellow villa is home to a cozy restaurant with an industrial kitchen. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Plus, Nick is a fantastic chef. He’ll prepare the most delicious dishes upon request and carefully curates the weekly menu featuring local and seasonal dishes.

You can come here for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We accommodate special dietary requests.

How do you get there?

The nearest hamlet is 6 kilometers away, and the first village is 15 kilometers away. You can fly to Umeå via Stockholm. Umeå Airport is about an hour’s drive from the nature lodge. A rental car is convenient during your stay. You can also arrange a transfer through the hotel if you’d like.
