Stokkøya Strandhotell: Nature and Design on the Trøndelag Coast

Stokkøya Strandhotell, located on the exotic Hosnasand, is a hidden gem on the Norwegian coast. About a 2-hour drive (including the ferry) from Trondheim will takeyou to this little coastal paradise. The best moment of the day? When the morning mist gently drifts across the coast.

Why is Stokkøya Strandhotell your next sustainable destination?

  • Unparalleled location: right next to one of Norway’s most beautiful beaches. Sand, sea, and architecture come together in perfect harmony.
  • An architectural masterpiece: the so-called SUB‑lugarene—the hotel rooms—are built into the sandbank. A clever design to minimize the impact on the surroundings. Large skylights in the roof and glass walls offer a spectacular view of the sea, while the rear of the building remains hidden.
  • A thoughtfully designed and sustainable interior: featuring soft textile accents and reclaimed materials from Troningen Gård and a shipbreaking yard, in collaboration with the art academy in Gothenburg, each room has a unique atmosphere.
  • A strong focus on sustainability and local culture: active adventures and culinary experiences featuring local ingredients, without causing unnecessary environmental impact.

A wonderful nature experience & relaxation in Stokkøy

Stokkøy is a small island off the coast of Norway. It has beautiful beaches and natural scenery. The island is a popular summer destination, but it’s also attractive during the other seasons, partly because of the northern lights. The hotel is closed only between November and the end of January.

The hotel offers many free activities. The landscape is ideal for hikers, runners, and cyclists. There are also plenty of fishing spots. Feel free to ask Stokkøya for hiking tips, ranging from exciting caves to beautiful viewpoints. You can also participate in organized workshops, ranging from wine tasting to rock climbing and sea fishing.

TIPS

  • Birdwatching. Bring your binoculars and go for a walk. You’ll see eagles and many other species of birds here.
  • You can bike from Stokkøy to Linesøya Island via the connecting bridge.
  • Culinary delights by the sea: Restaurant de Strandbaren literally hovers two meters above the water. Here, you can enjoy a delicious grilling experience featuring local ingredients.
  • Outdoor activities: from kayaking, biking, fishing, and hiking to relaxing in hot tubs or listening to music at summer concerts.
