Tecciù di Cuppi: Staying Between the Sea and the Mountains Near Pietra Ligure

Tecciù di Cuppi: Nature Vacation Near Pietra Ligure (Liguria)

Sometimes on vacation, you want the best of both worlds: the scent of pine and chestnut forests in the morning, a dip in the sea in the afternoon, and a place where it gets truly quiet in the evening. Tecciù di Cuppi captures that vibe perfectly: a cozy little vacation park in the Ligurian hinterland, with the coast just a short distance away and a landscape that invites you to get outside—on foot, by mountain bike, or just taking it nice and slow. And the view…

Why Tecciù di Cuppi is such a great base

What appeals to me about places like this is that you don’t have to choose between being active and relaxing. You sleep surrounded by nature, but you still have all the comforts (air conditioning, private bathroom, kitchenette). And as soon as you step outside, the Outdoor life begins. Your accommodations are fairly basic, but you’re right in the middle of the beautiful natural landscape of the Ligurian coast’s hinterland. Plus: you get views of both the sea and the mountains.

For nature lovers, the Ligurian hinterland is especially appealing: it’s cooler than the coast on hot days, smells of Mediterranean vegetation, and you can easily hop onto a trail leading to scenic overlooks. And if you do want to go to the beach? It’s just a short trip away.

Staying in wooden bungalows: simple, cozy, and practical

The cottages at Tecciù di Cuppi are wooden cabins that sleep 2+2 (1 bedroom), with air conditioning, a kitchenette, a bathroom, and Wi-Fi. The living room features a sofa bed for two people and a small kitchenette. You can make your own breakfast or a simple pasta dish, take a quick shower after a hike, and sit outside in the evening with that typical Ligurian feeling that “the day could certainly last a little longer.”

Good to know:

  • You have your own bathroom (which is nice after a day on the trails or at the beach).
  • The program also caters to athletes: it explicitly targets people who want to walk, bike, and work out.

Eat, relax, and recharge: restaurant, relaxation area, sauna, and pool

You don’t have to cook every day: there’s a small restaurant in the park serving local dishes, and there’s a bar/convenience store—handy for fresh staples and quick meals. You can have breakfast, lunch, or dinner there.
What makes Tecciù di Cuppi especially appealing is its wellness area: a counter-current pool, hydromassage, solarium, and relaxation zone, plus a sauna set in a green setting. Plus, it’s open year-round.

And yes: there’s also a gym and a ping-pong table.

Outdoor adventures start here: hiking, mountain biking, and rock climbing around Pietra Ligure

Mountain Biking in the Finale Outdoor Region

If you look around the MTB world even just a little bit, you’ll come across the name Finale Outdoor Region time and time again. And for good reason: there are over 200 (and according to some sources, even over 250) trails. From “flow” to technical, with that legendary combination of rock, forest, and ocean views. The friendly owners of Tecciù di Cuppi are happy to help you rent mountain bikes or book a guide.

Here’s my tip if you want to drive in a more sustainable (and eco-friendly) way:

  • Stay on the official trails and avoid taking shortcuts (erosion is a problem here).
  • Go early or later in the day to avoid the crowds.
  • Consider hiring a guide: they’ll not only show you the way, but also help minimize your impact.

Trekking and Hiking: Colle del Melogno & Alta Via dei Monti Liguri

Hikers can really let loose here, too. The area is crisscrossed by trails that connect to the Alta Via dei Monti Liguri (AVML), a long-distance trail through the Ligurian mountains. The CAI (Club Alpino Italiano) describes routes that take you through beech forests, among other things, as well as alternative routes leading to scenic viewpoints.

A classic in the area is the region around Colle del Melogno and the climb toward Monte Carmo di Loano (1,389 m), with views that allow you to “take in” both the mountains and the coast at the same time.

Via Ferrata degli Artisti: Adrenaline with a View

In the mood for something more adventurous? The Via Ferrata degli Artisti (near Finale Ligure) is known as a route of moderate difficulty, featuring, among other things, a rope bridge about 40 meters long and plenty of panoramic views. Please note: for via ferrata, proper equipment and experience are essential. Rent a set that includes a helmet from a reliable provider, or go with a guide.

Climbing in Finalese

Finale Ligure is also a climbing classic: the Finale Outdoor Region boasts thousands of routes on cliffs with ocean views and in the hinterland. Even if you don’t climb, it’s fun to walk past a climbing sector: bring a picnic, switch to spectator mode, and you’ve got a free show.
