This 8-day self-guided hiking trip in Peneda-Gerês National Park takes you through impressive mountain landscapes, enchanting forests, and highland villages in northern Portugal.
You can take this week-long hiking tour on your own; it’s organized by our sustainable, local partner. Your accommodations, luggage transport, transfers, and route descriptions are included. Read more at the bottom of the page to find out how to book the trip.

This walking tour is available from March 1 through October 31
Your trip begins in Ponte de Lima. It’s not a hiking day, but you’ll receive a wonderful welcome. After arriving at a charming 3-star hotel, you’ll receive a welcome package with the hiking app, maps, and a briefing. You’ll have the rest of the day to explore: the Roman bridge, the medieval town center, the gardens, and enjoy a glass of Vinho Verde at a local restaurant.

The walking tour ends after breakfast. If you’d like, you can stay in Porto or the surrounding area on your own.
Most of this hiking vacation takes place on unpaved trails and in rugged terrain. You’ll need good hiking boots with cushioning and support. There’s little shade along the way, so proper protection from the weather is also important. We recommend bringing hiking poles.
Not included: flight, transfers to and from the airport, dinners (except breakfast and lunch), insurance, tips, and personal expenses.
Optional add-ons: extra nights in Porto/Viana, transfers to and from Porto.
