Agriturismo Pira Pinta: an authentic agriturismo in Dorgali, Sardinia

Agriturismo Pira Pinta: an authentic agriturismo near the Gorropu Gorge

Agriturismo Pira Pinta is the kind of place where you immediately think: I want to stay here. As soon as you turn onto the driveway, Antonella and her husband are already there to welcome you to this magical spot near Dorgali, on the east coast of Sardinia. Here, it’s all about simplicity, hospitality, nature, and living in tune with the rhythm of the land.

A working agriturismo full of animals (and character)

Pira Pinta is not a polished tourist farm, but an agriturismo that is still fully operational. Living on the property are:

  • sheep
  • donkeys
  • dogs
  • pigs
  • cats

In addition, they produce their own wine and make heavenly pecorino cheese, sausage, and other local specialties.

Imagine this: you’re sitting on your own terrace overlooking the countryside, a glass of homemade wine in your hand, a platter full of local cheeses and ham on the table, and somewhere in the distance you can hear the sheep and donkeys. This is Sardinia just as you’d hope to find it: pure, flavorful, and uncomplicated.

The Perfect Base for Exploring Nature: Supramonte, Gorropu, and Tiscali

Agriturismo Pira Pinta is located in the hills near Dorgali, on the east coast of Sardinia. It is an ideal base from which to explore the region’s rugged natural landscape.

Supramonte, Dorgali

You are right in the heart of the Supramonte Dorgali: a mountain range featuring rugged plateaus, deep sinkholes, rocky peaks, and imposing cliffs. The landscape surrounding the five villages—including Dorgali—is rugged, impressive, and still wonderfully unspoiled.

Gorropu Gorge, just 33 km away

The famous Gorropu Gorge (Gola di Gorropu) is located about 33 km from the agriturismo. It is one of the deepest gorges in Europe and a must-see if you enjoy hiking, climbing, and spectacular scenery.

Tiscali: A Hidden Village Inside a Hollow Mountain

About 20–25 km from Pira Pinta lies Tiscali, a hollow mountain that once housed a hidden settlement. This mysterious place is still the subject of archaeological research.

Important to know:

  • Tiscali is accessible only on foot, and preferably with a guide
  • The walk to the entrance takes at least two hours
  • The trails are poorly marked
  • You won’t find any official rest stops along the way
  • It’s best to visit Tiscali in the spring or fall, because it gets extremely hot very quickly in the summer

Olbia and the Costa Smeralda are about 80 km away

In short: Pira Pinta is a delightful, welcoming base from which to explore the unique natural beauty and archaeological sites of Eastern Sardinia.
