Ca’ Allegra: apartments in an old farmhouse between Venice and Treviso
Where hay once lay in a Venetian farmhouse, you now make your morning espresso. Ca’ Allegra in Mogliano Veneto is an old “casa colonica,” converted into a residence with nine apartments. The house is situated in a large park in the countryside, about 3 km from the center of Mogliano. Venice is a 15- to 20-minute train ride away, and Treviso is even closer.
If you want to see Venice without staying overnight, stay here. Take the train to the lagoon and spend the rest of the week cycling along the Sile and the Dese rivers and across the islands of the lagoon.
Why this place is featured on Nature Travel Lab
Ca’ Allegra makes it possible to visit Venice without staying in the crowded city center: you’ll stay in the countryside, take the train to the lagoon, and bike along rivers off the beaten path. Selected based on the property’s website and a personal conversation with the owner.

A Farm Given a New Lease on Life
The building consists of two parts. The former three-story main house was the residence of the farming family. The lower section next to it was the hay barn with outbuildings. During the renovation, the farm’s original structure was preserved, but the interior is entirely new, insulated, and soundproof. Surrounding the house is a park with a playground and a sunbathing area.
Ca’ Allegra operates as a residence: you have your own apartment with a kitchen and a front door. There’s also a communal lounge and a space where you can read or, if you really have to, get some work done.
The apartments
- Studio and two-room apartment (40 m²): for two adults and one small child. Double bed, kitchen with espresso machine, bathroom with walk-in shower.
- Three-room apartment (65 m²): for four to five people. Living room, bedroom with a double bed, second bedroom with two beds, and in some apartments, an additional bathroom. Large windows with electric blinds.
All apartments are modernly furnished and feature air conditioning, heating, window screens, Wi-Fi, a dishwasher, and a washing machine. This is convenient if you’re staying for a week and going out every day.
Things to Do Around Ca’ Allegra
Cycling and Hiking Along the Dese and the Zero
Around Mogliano, there are biking and hiking trails along the Dese and Zero rivers. The residence recommends the Sentiero Zelarino, a flat route along the Dese starting in Peseggia. It’s perfect for a morning walk or bike ride.
The Sile Nature Park
To the northeast of Mogliano flows the Sile, a spring-fed river that originates from seepage water in the plain and flows through Treviso to the lagoon. The Parco Naturale Regionale del Fiume Sile protects the riverbanks, marshes, and old water mills. Along the old towpath, the Restera, you can cycle from Treviso along the river to Casale sul Sile and on to Portegrandi on the edge of the lagoon. Near Casier, the wrecks of old cargo ships lie in the water.
Venice and the Lagoon, Beyond St. Mark’s
Take the train to Venezia Santa Lucia and skip San Marco. By vaporetto, you can reach the Lido and Pellestrina, long, narrow islands where you’ll cycle along dikes between the lagoon and the sea. The “Bike Venezia” route, recommended by the owner, follows dikes, islands, and beaches; a map and a GPX file are provided. In the northern part of the lagoon lie Burano and Torcello, with salt marshes and waterfowl.
Treviso and Padua
Treviso, just over ten minutes away by train, features canals, waterwheels, and a fish market on a small island in the river. You can reach Padua by train or car for a day of culture. In Mogliano itself, there’s a market in the square every Monday morning.
The Prosecco Hills
About a 45-minute drive away lie the Colline del Prosecco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene. Steep vineyards, small villages, and hiking trails that take you from winery to winery: the perfect day trip if you’re looking for some elevation gain.

Frequently Asked Questions About Ca’ Allegra
Is Ca’ Allegra surrounded by nature?
Not in a nature park. Ca’ Allegra is located in the countryside on the outskirts of Mogliano Veneto, about 3.5 km from the center. From the residence, you can bike and hike along the Dese and Zero rivers, and the Sile Nature Park is within biking distance. It’s a great base if you want to explore Venice and the lagoon by train and bike, but not if you’re looking for forests and mountains.
Can you get to Venice from Ca’ Allegra without a car?
Yes. Mogliano Veneto Station is a 7-minute drive away. From there, regional trains take 15 to 20 minutes to reach Venezia Santa Lucia and just over 10 minutes to reach Treviso.
How sustainable is Ca’ Allegra?
The old farmhouse was thoroughly insulated during its renovation and runs entirely on electricity. Most of that electricity comes from its own solar panels. There are four charging stations for electric cars, and the building was repurposed rather than newly constructed.
Are pets welcome at Ca’ Allegra?
Yes, after consulting with the residence. Ask when booking if there is an additional charge.
Is Ca’ Allegra suitable for families?
Yes. The 65 m² three-bedroom apartments can accommodate four to five people; there is a playground on the premises, and a crib and high chair are available upon request.
When is the best time to visit Ca’ Allegra?
April through June and September through November. That’s when the weather is ideal for cycling along the Sile and in the lagoon, and Venice is less crowded than in July and August.
How do you book Ca’ Allegra?
