Locanda Mistral: Hiking and Delicious Food in Piedmont

Locanda Mistral is a welcoming and charming family-run hotel in the mountains of the authentic Valle Maira in the region of Piedmont. One of the most beautiful and lesser-known valleys in the Italian Alps.

Here, you can enjoy the unspoiled natural beauty of the surrounding mountains and the local traditions, especially when it comes to food. Locanda Mistral has an excellent restaurant serving authentic local dishes.

Local culinary delights made with seasonal ingredients

Manuela is a chef, and Renato has been an experienced mountain guide for over 20 years. Together, they do everything they can to ensure that you have the best possible time during your stay.

Manuela is dedicated to the cuisine at Locanda Mistral: she learned to cook from her mother. Using local, seasonal, and high-quality ingredients has always been the guiding principle.

Now her mother only helps with the homemade pasta. She does the rest herself, and together with her team, she keeps the old recipes alive. The suppliers and products are local and carefully selected based on environmentally friendly production methods.

All ingredients are carefully selected. Every season has its surprises: spring brings an abundance of herbs and wildflowers, summer an explosion of aromas and flavors, and fall brings chestnuts, pumpkins, truffles, and leeks from Cervere… and the garden, tended by Renato in the summer, adds a touch of freshness to the dishes.

The menu always offers vegetarian options. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner.

More than 800 kilometers of hiking trails starting from Locanda Mistral

You can set out on endless hikes right from Locanda Mistral. There are both easy walks and more challenging hikes for experienced mountain hikers. More than 800 kilometers of hiking and mule trails wind through the fields and connect villages from a bygone era. It’s also a beautiful hiking area in the fall.

Renato is an experienced mountain guide. With his extensive knowledge of the area’s history, culture, flora, and fauna, he is the ideal companion for your hikes. Originally from South Tyrol, his native language is German, but he also speaks Italian and English fluently. He is also the author of two guidebooks on the Valle Maira.

Locanda Mistral is located near Acceglio and serves as a strategic stopover for longer trails such as the GTA, Via Alpina, and the Occitan trails (a stop on the Occitan trails since 2001).

You can request personalized, custom-designed excursions: Via Normale Provenzale, Ferrata Oronaye, Ferrata Camoglieres, Brec de Chambeyron, Aiguille de Chambeyron, Monviso.

In the winter, it’s a beautiful ski resort, and there are daily excursions for alpine skiing or snowshoeing. You can book various guided winter packages.

14 comfortable rooms

Locanda Mistral is a 19th-century farmhouse that has been completely renovated while preserving its local style. Manuela took over the house from her parents; it has been in her family for generations.

Following a thorough renovation, 14 beautiful and comfortable rooms have been created in the locanda. The interior design is characteristic of the Alpine tradition of the “Occitan valleys.” You can choose from different types of rooms: the traditional ones, featuring details from the early 19th century, original wooden floors, and vaulted ceilings; or the modern, larger ones, designed with attention to detail.

Locanda Mistral, Sustainable Philosophy

“Respect for the beauty and cultural richness of the valley” is Locanda Mistral’s philosophy. Their commitment protects and supports the local community. The couple’s work is authentic and genuine, and it respects local values and the environment.

Quality comes first. Renato and Manuela want to offer you warm hospitality, while respecting the local area and nature.

Wellness, silence, and tranquility

You can relax in the two gardens, one of which is located next to a stream. It’s also wonderful to unwind in the sauna after a day of walking, hiking, or skiing.

The garden is full of plants, shrubs, and green spaces with grass where you can sit, walk, or just relax. No less than 900 square meters are at your disposal, complete with lounge chairs, tables, and chairs. A wonderful place to unwind. When you return from your walk or excursion, you can unwind in the sauna or take a dip in the Maira Stream for a delightful Kneipp treatment.

A 15-minute drive from Locanda Mistral, you’ll find Camping Mistral, which is also managed by Manuela and Renato. Read more here about this Small-scale and sustainable campground.
