Montimerso Skyscape Countryhouse: an oasis of tranquility in the heart of the Alentejo

Do you long for silence, stars, grapevines, and the pure scent of nature? Montimerso SkyScape CountryHouse is just such a place where all these sensations come together.

This unique eco-lodge is located in the heart of Alentejo in Portugal. Located near the medieval town of Monsaraz, this is the perfect destination if you love peace and quiet, nature, and sustainability. Montimerso Skyscape Countryhouse is more than just a place to stay—it’s a unique experience in a unique natural setting.

A hidden gem in the Dark Sky Reserve

Montimerso is located in the heart of the Dark Sky Alqueva Reserve, the world’s first certified “Starlight Tourism Destination.” That means minimal light pollution, an endless starry sky, and unparalleled silence. Even without a telescope, you can see the Milky Way with the naked eye here.

The holm oak smells of warm earth, even on cold nights. Under a blanket of stars, you find yourself in the Darksky® Alqueva Reserve, the world’s first UNESCO-certified starlight destination…

Eco-luxury meets design: with a view of nature

Montimerso Skyscape Countryhouse offers various types of accommodations:

  • 15 spacious suites and premium suites with views of Monsaraz or Lake Alqueva
  • 1 apartment for up to 3 people, also suitable for longer stays
  • Pet-friendly options

All 16 accommodations feature large windows overlooking the natural surroundings. The decor is light and simple/modern, featuring natural materials. All accommodations have a patio. No TV or other distractions—just peace and quiet, birdsong, and the wind rustling through the cork oaks. Here, you can wake up in the morning to the first rays of sunlight over Lake Alqueva.

Wellness Dome

In addition to the common areas for relaxation, you can enjoy the sauna, hydromassage, aromatherapy, and more in the beautiful wellness dome. Use of these facilities is exclusive and by appointment only.

Activities: from stargazing to silent walks

What you’ll find here above all is space. Space to walk, to slow down, to breathe.

  • Astrotourism: You can admire the night sky on your own. Guided stargazing sessions with astronomers are held every month.
  • Hiking & Biking Through the Alentejo Countryside
  • Yoga on the terrace at sunrise (once a month)
  • Wildlife Spotting: From Birds to Foxes

Want to get out and about? The town of Monsaraz is beautiful and authentic, with white houses, a castle, and views across the Spanish border.

Food & Drink: Local and Seasonal

The Skyscape restaurant on the estate serves dishes made with local ingredients, such as Alentejo cheese, homemade jam, organic wines, and fresh vegetables. Here, you can enjoy a stunning view of Lake Alqueva.

Breakfast is included and plentiful: fresh bread, eggs, fruit, and local honey. You can tell that everything is prepared with love and care.

Sustainable design, deeply connected to nature

What makes Montimerso Skyscape Countryhouse so unique is how its design blends seamlessly into the landscape. The buildings are modern, yet pay homage to traditional architecture: white-plastered walls, soft lines, and natural materials. It almost feels as if you’re temporarily becoming part of the landscape.

Montimerso adheres to ESG (Environmental, Social, Governance) principles and is a pioneer in this field in Portugal. For example, the company collects rainwater, minimizes light pollution, and maintains beehives and livestock in the 55 ha of surrounding oak forests. Furthermore, they provide employment opportunities for the local population and have built a permanent team of employees and local suppliers.

Why Montimerso?

  1. Silence and stars: you really can’t hear a thing here except for nature.
  1. Conscious and comfortable: no greenwashing, just real choices without compromising on comfort.
  1. Connection to the landscape: you live in tune with the rhythm of the day.
  1. Personalized service: small-scale, warm welcome.
  1. Access to the Dark Sky experience without mass tourism.
