Stay among the vineyards at Podere Casa al Vento in Montepulciano

Podere Casa al Vento: Agritourism at a Winery in Montepulciano

Just six kilometers outside Montepulciano, nestled among the rolling vineyards, lies the Podere Casa al Vento agriturismo. Here, you’ll stay with a family of winemakers who work with great love and respect for nature. Imagine waking up to a view of the Tuscan hills, taking a dip in the pool, and enjoying a glass of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano from their own vineyards in the evening.

Staying at a family-run business with its own vineyard

Podere Casa al Vento is a small-scale, family-run organic wine and olive oil farm. Paolo, Giulia, and their family run both the agriturismo and the 7-hectare vineyard. They also produce olive oil from a 4-hectare olive grove. Their most distinctive product is the Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, a full-bodied red wine that clearly reflects the combination of fertile soil, tradition, and craftsmanship.

As a guest, you’ll stay on the same estate where the grapes grow. That makes your stay even more special: you’ll see the rows of grapevines change with the seasons, smell the olive trees, and hear the peaceful rhythm of farm life.

A passion for farming and respect for nature

The estate consists of approximately 6 hectares of vineyards and olive groves. The work on the land is hard, but the family approaches it with obvious pride and love. They combine tradition with a modern approach to sustainability.

  • Whenever possible, they opt for mechanical weed control instead of chemical methods.
  • To protect the grapevines, they prefer targeted methods that are as environmentally friendly as possible.
  • Fertilization and care are tailored to the soil and the long term, not to quick yields.

As a guest, you’re indirectly contributing to a winemaking process that respects the environment.

The Wine Cellar: From Grape to Vino Nobile

One of the best parts of a stay at Podere Casa al Vento is its small-scale but meticulous wine production.

  • We use only our own grapes, grown in the vineyards surrounding the agriturismo.
  • The grapes are picked by hand, in keeping with local tradition.
  • After vinification, the best wines are aged in oak barrels, which gives Vino Nobile di Montepulciano its characteristic deep, round flavor.

You can taste the wines on site in the garden, in the wine cellar, or in a tasting room. A nice touch: the wines can also be ordered online, so you can relive your vacation at home.

Swimming Pool, Barbecue, and Outdoor Life

The daily rhythm at Podere Casa al Vento is peaceful and exceptionally relaxed:

Start your morning with a cup of coffee on your own little terrace, as the sun slowly rises over the hills. During the day, you can cool off in the pool or read a book in the shade of the trees. As evening approaches, fire up the barbecue and enjoy local specialties: pecorino, fresh vegetables, high-quality olive oil from the estate, and, of course, a glass of wine to go with it.

For children, there’s plenty of space to play safely; for adults, there’s above all plenty of peace and quiet and beautiful views.

Hiking between Val di Chiana and Val d’Orcia

Podere Casa al Vento’s location is ideal for those who enjoy the outdoors. You can walk right from the property into the vineyards and olive groves.

Between the Val di Chiana and the Val d’Orcia there are countless peaceful hiking trails:

  • Short walks along vineyards and cypress trees—perfect for the late afternoon.
  • Longer trips toward Montepulciano or the thermal baths of Chianciano Terme.
  • The sunrises and sunsets here are spectacular: the light slowly turns the hills golden and pink, while swallows circle above the vineyards.

Guided tours, cooking workshops, tastings, and wine experiences

As a guest, you can participate in the following upon request:

  • Farm tour: Learn how the family works in the vineyard and olive grove.
  • You can participate in cooking workshops, and upon request, a light lunch will be prepared for you and even delivered to your room or the pool area.
  • Wine-making tour: Discover the various steps from harvest to aging.
  • Wine Tasting: Sample Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, Rosso di Montepulciano, and other wines from the winery, often paired with local appetizers such as cheese and salumi.
