Twente Cabin: Back to Nature in a Tiny House in Twente

Twente Cabin: Off-Grid Charging in Twente’s Culisse Landscape

Sometimes you don’t need a vacation—you need a pause button. A place where the air sounds quieter, where you rediscover how wonderful it is to walk barefoot through the grass, and where, in the evening, you’re not staring at a screen but at a fire.

Twente Cabins are hidden gems nestled in the heart of Twente’s bocage landscape: small-scale, cozy, and minimalist. Completely off-grid, so you can recharge in nature with as little impact as possible. Take off your shoes, take a deep breath… and enjoy.

Twente Cabin is a circular, off-grid cabin in Twente equipped with solar panels, a rainwater filtration system, large windows, a wood-burning stove, and an outdoor fire pit. It’s perfect for a peaceful getaway in nature in northeastern Twente.

Why Twente Cabin Works So Well (Even When Your Mind Is Cluttered)

  • Off-grid tranquility: no excess, but plenty of comfort
  • Essence over stimulation: the design is intentionally minimalist, allowing nature and silence to take center stage
  • Connected inside and out: large windows bring the landscape indoors
  • Twente at its best: hedgerows, farmlands, forest edges, and winding paths

This is the kind of place where you naturally start to move more slowly. Not because you have to, but because you can.

Circular & Off-Grid: Staying Without Leaving a Trace

Twente Cabin was built and furnished with a clear goal in mind: to be as circular as possible.

Designed and furnished with a circular approach

  • Made entirely of sustainable wood
  • Interior design featuring local and sustainable items whenever possible

Completely off-grid

  • Rainwater is collected and filtered inside the cabin using an innovative filtration system
  • Electricity comes from solar panels and an off-grid battery

Here, sustainability doesn’t feel like making sacrifices, but rather like: simpler, more beautiful, more logical.

The location: Twente Cabin Hezingen, all by itself in the world

If you’re starting to think you’re going the wrong way… you’re on the right track. Twente Cabin Hezingen is located on private property, surrounded by trees and farmland, near the ’t Springendal nature reserve. This is the cabin for anyone who really wants to get away from it all: silence, space, and the feeling that the world ends just a few steps away.

Perfect for:

  • alone or together (2 people)
  • those seeking deep peace
  • hikers who want to start directly from the cabin

’t Springendal Nature Reserve: Twente at its most picturesque

Near Ootmarsum lies ’t Springendal: a varied landscape featuring seepage ponds, streams, small waterfalls, hills, heathland, meadows, and historic farms. Around 1920, the area took on an estate-like character with English influences; this is reflected in the tree-lined avenues, fields, and the “romantic” greenery.

The Most Beautiful Hiking Trails Starting from ’t Springendal

Spring Trail (4.7 km)
An idyllic trail along winding paths, boardwalks, beech-lined avenues, streams, and clear spring ponds.

Heather Trail (3.2 km)
A short walk through heathlands and the Paardenslenkte; a glimpse of Twente’s “onland” as it used to be.

Forest Ranger Trail (18 km)
If you want to spend more time in nature: streams, heathland, sand lizards, and orchids in the spring. Sometimes it feels as if you’re not in the Netherlands at all.

Tip: Combine the Bronnenroute in the morning with a long lunch break, and wrap up the day with an evening around the fire pit. That rhythm fits perfectly here.
