The Rota Vicentina is a network of trails that connects old fishermen’s paths. Where necessary, new hiking trails have been built to create a total of about 400 km of hiking paradise. The Rota Vicentina runs through the Alentejo and Algarve regions.
Would you rather not have to figure out the itinerary, hotels, and luggage transport on your own? You can also explore the northern part as part of a an organized hiking tour along the Fisherman’s Trail . You’ll hike on your own, but accommodations and luggage transport are arranged by a local specialist.


The Rota Vicentina is an ideal route for solo travelers: it’s easy and safe to hike, and you’ll never be completely alone along the way. You’ll always run into fellow hikers, and the very friendly locals are always willing to help or support you.
Portugal has invested in the Rota Vicentina Eco Tourism project. Through this project, a group of young European volunteers is working to protect and restore nature in a sustainable way.

Both along the Rota Vicentina and the Fisherman’s Trail, you’ll find a variety of sustainable hotels, B&Bs, and agriturismos. For the real die-hards, you can also camp along the route. When hiking the Fisherman’s Trail, keep in mind that you’ll need to add a few extra kilometers to reach the villages where you’ll be spending the night.
