I really love hiking through the Tuscan countryside. Tuscany is a dream destination for hikers. This Italian region is known for its rolling hills, medieval villages, cypress-lined avenues, and vast vineyards. Tuscany is especially a beautiful hiking destination in the spring (April through June) and fall (September–October).
I’ll describe the most beautiful hiking trails in Tuscany, including practical tips and a handy map to help you plan your route.

This easy, short hike is about 4–6 km (depending on where you park) and takes about 1.5 hours to complete. You can park on Via dei Cipressi in Colle Val d’Elsa. The river has beautifully clear blue water, and you’ll pass a stunning waterfall—the Cascata del Diborrato—where you can swim.

Choose from short forest walks or longer hikes of varying difficulty. Combine your hike with local cuisine. Monte Amiata offers a wide range of hiking options, from the peaks of Monte Labbro to trails through the surrounding villages. Read more about Monte Amiata, a beautiful slice of authentic Tuscany.
Tip: Explore the forests and enjoy the local cuisine in the villages.

The island of Elba, off the coast of Tuscany, is a true paradise for nature lovers. Here, rugged mountain landscapes alternate with picturesque beaches. Two hiking trails you definitely shouldn’t miss:
Monte Capanne (1,019 m) is the highest mountain on Elba and offers a spectacular 360-degree view of the island. On clear days, you can even see Corsica in the distance.
Route options:
Tip: Wear sturdy hiking shoes, as some sections are rocky and steep.
The Grande Traversata Elbana (GTE) is one of Italy’s most beautiful multi-day hiking trails. This 70-kilometer hike crosses the island from east to west and takes you through both mountainous and coastal landscapes. It’s a fairly challenging hike that’s suitable for experienced hikers.
Stages:
