I Liberotti in Sardinia

I Liberotti, a little paradise right on the coast of Sardinia

Gaetano and Christin warmly welcome you to Sardinia. They are passionate nature lovers and look forward to welcoming you as their guest in their little paradise by the sea. You’ll find “I Liberotti” on Marzellinu Beach, on the east coast of Sardinia. It’s about an hour’s drive south of Olbia.

Two rooms with a private terrace

I Liberotti consists of two rooms, Oleandro and Ginepro. Both are suitable for two people and feature a double bed. The furnishings are basic and functional. You’ll have a private bathroom with a shower and toilet, as well as a kitchenette equipped with the bare essentials. The rooms have a fan (no air conditioning). The volcanic stone of the house helps keep it cool during the hot summer months.

Ginepro has a view of the sea, and Oleandro has a view of the garden, with fruit trees—including an olive tree, a lemon tree, an orange tree, and a fig tree—behind the oleander bushes.

The house was originally the Gaetano family’s vacation home. It was built and renovated in the traditional Sardinian stone-building style. These stones keep the house cool in the summer. Bed and bath linens are included. The friendly owners live in the upstairs apartment. They have a small dog and two cats that roam the property.

Spacious garden with access to the beach

Outside, you’ll find a lovely private terrace with patio furniture. The house has a large garden with direct access to the sea and a stunning view. The garden is wild but charming. This area is for shared use. There are several spots to relax with lounge chairs or seating areas. Of course, please respect each other’s privacy. You’ll enjoy views of the beautiful bay and the sea, which is just 15 meters from the garden.

The beach is called Spiaggia di Marzellinu. It’s part of the “Cala Liberotto” coastline, after which the house is named. Here, you can relax on a lounge chair or take a refreshing dip in the sea. If you walk further along the beach, you’ll find bars, ice cream shops, and a few restaurants.

Panoramic view of the Gulf of Orosei

Whether at sunrise or on a moonlit night, the view is breathtaking. Sailing boats passing by, leaping dolphins, or cormorants. The garden and bay are a protected Nature reserve that the owners are happy to share with you. Near I Liberotti, you’ll find the little Sos Alinos River with marsh plants lining its banks, and in the distance, you can see the mountains.

Hiking Trails Near I Liberotti

  • In this part of the Gulf of Orosei, you’ll find wide sandy beaches interspersed with hidden coves. Separated from one another by gentle granite cliffs, they’re all accessible on foot. You can walk all the way to the Curcurica River in the north, passing by the Bidderosa Nature Reserve. It takes about an hour to walk from Cala Marzellinu to the Bidderosa Nature Reserve.
  • You can also hike along the rugged coastline from Cala Gonone to Cala Luna. This hike takes about 2.5 hours. The trail is rocky and requires sturdy hiking boots and a good level of fitness. You can return to Cala Gonone by boat if you wish.
  • Dorgali is a small mountain village near Cala Gonone, known for its artisanal traditions. From here, you can take beautiful hikes, such as to the Gorropu Gorge and the nuraghe village of Tiscali. The rugged mountain ranges are especially beautiful in bloom during the spring.
  • On the way from Dorgali to Orosei, you’ll find Europe’s largest stalagmite in the Ispinigoli stalagmite cave.

Boat Tour from Orosei

Orosei is located 8 kilometers south of Cala Liberotto. The historic center is beautifully lit by streetlamps. From Orosei or the harbor area of Cala Gonone, you can take a boat trip to the popular beaches of Cala Fuili, Cala Luna, Cala Mariolu, and Cala Goloritzè.

Canoeing, bike rentals, and excursions

You can also explore the river by canoe. The river flows into the sea at the beach near your apartment. You can rent canoes at the nearby campground. You can also arrange jeep tours to Sardinia’s hinterland there. A little further down the road, you can rent bicycles.

Sardinian cuisine at agriturismi

You’ll end your day with the most delicious dishes at one of the nearby agriturismi. If the fruit trees are bearing fruit, you can, of course, sample it. You’ll take care of breakfast yourself.
