What a special place! Comfortable glamping accommodations in the beautiful Valldal in Norway. Want to discover the most beautiful spots in one of Norway’s most beautiful valleys? Meretes Garden offers you relaxation surrounded by stunning nature.
Meretes Garden is the ideal base for a comfortable place to stay after a day exploring the natural beauty of Valldal. The Geirangerfjord is just a short distance away, and Valldal offers the most beautiful hiking and biking trails right near the Glamping site.
Literally spend the night surrounded by nature. In the summer, you can sleep in one of the six large eco-cotton tents. The tents are furnished like first-class hotel rooms, with comfortable beds and down comforters. They are waterproof and temperature-regulating.
The tents are set up on a wooden deck. All tents have 3 to 4 beds (with the option to add a 5th mattress). One tent has 2 stylish wooden single beds. Children ages 0–2 stay for free, and special offers apply for stays of 3 nights or longer.
The extensive facilities at the Gullåna bathhouse are located right next to the tents. In addition to showers and restrooms, you’ll also find the spa here. There’s also a modern kitchen that guests can use and a living room with access to the glass greenhouse for yoga.
A Japanese garden with a koi pond creates a serene atmosphere. The garden remains lush and green all year round. Aesthetics and a unique atmosphere are the key words that describe the entire complex. In short, it’s much more than just a place to stay.
At the bathhouse, you can stay in a lovely little double room all year round. During the summer months, you’ll share the dressing room and living room with the Glamping guests.
From October through May, you’ll have the entire 150 m² bathhouse all to yourself. It features two bedrooms and a tower room with a view of the starry sky (for 1–6 people). A truly unique apartment.
Fall asleep to the sound of the river, wake up to birdsong. You can join a morning yoga class in the old greenhouse. One of the highlights at Meretes Garden is the handmade, wood-heated sauna. Through the large window, you can enjoy the beautiful natural surroundings. The locally built and hand-carved sauna in the Meretes Garden is a gem in its own right. Upon request, it is heated between 5:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m.
During your stay, evening access to the sauna and morning yoga* (3 days) are included in the price; you can book a massage as an add-on.
*Yoga: Includes Monday, Wednesday, and Friday; otherwise, NOK. NOK 240 per person
You can join mindfulness walks in the beautiful natural surroundings near the house.
Merete Myklebust grew up on the farm that she has now gradually transformed into a retreat. She has a diverse background: she is a certified yoga teacher and psychotherapist who uses the body as an anchor for change.
In addition to running the yoga studio, spa, and retreat, working with people is her main focus. Merete loves creative development and entrepreneurship.
Yoga, the sauna, and the beautiful natural spots in the area are concepts she hopes will offer you that little bit of extra quality of life. She believes that everything in life exists to foster awareness. And your attitude toward what happens is often crucial to your well-being.
Meretes Garden offers a fresh and delicious breakfast made with local ingredients and plenty of homemade items. On weekends, they also serve delicious, healthy waffles with homemade jam and cheese. You’re welcome to use the well-equipped guest kitchen to prepare your own meals.
The Vallsdalsleden (Valldalsleia) pilgrimage route is just a 5-minute walk from Meretes Garden. It is, in fact, a certified pilgrim inn. You can stay overnight and have a meal here during your pilgrimage.
According to Norwegian philosophy, nature conservation is everyone’s responsibility. The local population tries to leave as small a footprint as possible. At Meretes Garden, they are committed by taking extra good care of the environment, the unique natural surroundings, and the community—and, of course, the guests. When building the house, the priority was on using solid wood, eco-friendly insulation, and paint to create a healthy home to stay in. It is also furnished with bamboo or locally produced furniture of the highest quality. There is a charging station for electric cars.
Meretes Garden holds Environmental Lighthouse® certification and has been certified by the Norwegian government as a sustainable business.
The history of Myklebust Farm is told through three generations. Merete’s grandfather bought this farm, where Merete grew up. At the time, he grew vegetables and raised livestock on the farm.
Grandfather was an adventurer and had seven children. He went to Alaska as a gold prospector, just like many others from the villages around the fjord. He returned with enough money to start his own factory with his brother to make jam from local berries and fruit. Nils, Merete’s father, trained as a gardener and began tending the farm’s gardens in 1953. This is now the foundation of the retreat, Merete’s Garden.
Meretes Garden is uniquely situated in Valldal, known as the “strawberry village,” famous for its impressive mountains, mighty river with powerful waterfalls, and the deep-blue Norddal Fjord. It is situated in the heart of the Geirangerfjord and Tafjord UNESCO World Heritage Site, and is also just a short distance from the famous winding summer road, Trollstigen.
The beautiful natural surroundings are the heart and soul of the retreat. Here you’ll find lovely spots for meditation. A Zen-like path from the garden leads you to the peaceful surroundings of the beautiful Valldøla River.
You can walk directly from the campground to a forest trail that is part of the Valldalsleia pilgrimage route to Trondheim. If you’re in good shape, you can take a hike to the monastery grounds just above the center of Valldal.
