Basilicata – Matera – Tenuta Danesi
Tenuta Danesi, bubble rooms, and a country hotel near Matera in Basilicata

Surrounded by nature and close to Matera

Tenuta Danesi in Basilicata. Just outside the hustle and bustle of Matera and near Altamura in Puglia, you’ll find this old, restored farmhouse dating from the mid-18th century. The estate is situated in the serene countryside among the wheat fields surrounding Matera. You can feel the magic of the “sassi” and the unique, nearby Masseria di Jesce with its ancient frescoes. The location is ideal for visiting Matera, as well as Altamura or Gravina in Puglia, both of which are just a twenty-minute drive away. Read more here about the unique region of Basilicata.

Staying in an old masseria in the Basilicata countryside

Tenuta Danesi is a 3-star hotel with eight tastefully decorated rooms (some with a kitchenette), all designed in keeping with the unique architecture of the Lucanian countryside.

Unique Bubble Rooms at Matera

The estate has added several modern “bubble rooms” to the property. A unique experience surrounded by nature with optimal privacy. Sleep under the starry sky in the middle of a raised garden overlooking the rolling hills of Loca. Inside the bubble, you’ll find a telescope to study the starry sky up close. In addition to the sleeping area, you’ll have air conditioning, a sitting area, and a private bathroom—some with an outdoor hot tub. And you’ll have plenty of privacy.

Elegant barrel vaults and an enchanting courtyard with the atmosphere of days gone by. The tenuta is the centerpiece of a farm.

Cycling and Hiking in Matera

The area is ideal for hiking or biking. You can rent bikes at the tenuta.

Local products at Tenuta Danesi restaurant

The hotel offers a delicious breakfast buffet featuring fresh and local products. In addition, the estate has an Italian restaurant that serves vegetarian, vegan, and dairy-free dishes (upon request).

Masseria Jesce

The nearby Masseria Jesce is a unique, fortified 16th-century farmhouse with a history that stretches back much further. In addition to ancient frescoes, archaeological excavations have been conducted here. You’re right near the ancient Via Appia; the site of the farmhouse was already inhabited during Roman times.

Note: It is also possible to rent the Tenuta as a wedding venue. Private events with music may be held here. If such an event is scheduled during your stay, you will be notified.
