Terras do Salvado, agritourism in the heart of Portugal

Terras do Salvado, where time stands still

You open the door to your suite in the morning, and the first thing you hear is the wind whispering through the olive and cork trees. No traffic, no deadlines, no messages. Just the gentle scent of Portuguese soil, a panorama of green mountain slopes, and the realization that you’re exactly where you need to be.

Welcome to Terras do Salvado, a small-scale agritourism property in the heart of the “Beira Interior,” where a couple with two children traded their city dreams for something more authentic. And they invite you to do the same—even if it’s just for a week.

A place born of conviction

Teresa and Bruno left the hustle and bustle of city life behind and found not only fertile soil in Fundão, but also a new sense of purpose. With their own hands, they built Terras do Salvado—stone by stone, plant by plant. Every detail tells a story of a new beginning, of care, and of the desire to do things differently.

The result is neither a hotel nor a resort. It’s a home for travelers who want to take a moment to pause. A place that welcomes you just as a friend would: with warmth, without frills, and with deep respect for the surroundings.

“We wanted to create a place where every stay is more than just a place to stay. A meaningful break. Here, you live in harmony with the earth, take a deep breath, and appreciate what really matters.” Teresa & Bruno

Five unique accommodations, one philosophy

Terras do Salvado (2 ha) offers five carefully designed lodging options, ranging from an intimate studio apartment to three separate suites that can also be booked together as an exclusive villa. All accommodations are seamlessly integrated into the rural landscape and equipped with everything you need—and nothing more.

Vila do Tempo: studio apartment

For when you just want to get away for a while. Vila do Tempo features a fully equipped kitchenette, a private terrace, and sweeping views of the forested mountainsides. It’s ideal if you’re looking for peace and quiet—whether alone or as a couple—without sacrificing comfort. There’s a wood-burning stove here for the colder months.

Vila dos Sonhos: One-Bedroom Apartment

Space, tranquility, and breathtaking views. This apartment features a living room, kitchenette, wood-burning stove, and a balcony with a private hot tub. It also has a sleeper sofa, making it suitable for a family with two small children. Here, you can relax in the evening while the valley stretches out before you. Perfect for a couple or for a longer stay.

Vila Refúgio: 3 suites, one complex

Villa Refúgio combines three private suites into a single harmonious complex, surrounded by nature. The shared kitchen and dining area are available when you book the entire villa exclusively. This allows you to combine the privacy of your own space with the warmth of being together.

Silêncio Suite

Here, all you hear is nature. A comfortable double bed, soft natural light, and direct access to the outdoors. Silence needs nothing more than that.

Sossego Suite

“Sossego” means “peace” in Portuguese, and that promise is certainly fulfilled here. A serene interior, soft lighting, and a clock that seems to tick more slowly. A room that invites you to slow down.

Suite Retreat

If you really want to take a breather. Read, meditate, or just do nothing. Suite Retreat is an invitation to pause mindfully and reconnect with what truly matters.

The Surroundings: Portugal’s Best-Kept Secret

Fundão is nestled between two of Portugal’s most beautiful mountain ranges: the Serra da Estrela to the north and the Serra da Gardunha to the east. The area is rich in olive and cherry trees. It’s a region that still flies under the radar. And that’s exactly what makes it so charming.

Nature that takes your breath away

From Terras do Salvado, you have direct access to a landscape you won’t soon forget. The Serra da Gardunha rises to an elevation of 1,227 meters and offers marked hiking trails, biking routes, and lookouts with views stretching far into the plains of Castelo Branco and even the Serra da Estrela on the horizon. The Serra da Estrela Natural Park is less than an hour’s drive away.

You are here in the interior of central Portugal. Lisbon and Porto are both less than a 3-hour drive away (approx. 270 km).

In the spring, the region is blanketed in pink and white from the blooming cherry trees. Fundão is known as the cherry capital of Portugal. The Zêzere River is perfect for swimming, canoeing, or simply relaxing on a river beach.

Historic villages full of character

A 15-minute drive away lies Castelo Novo, one of Portugal’s Historic Villages: a granite village with a medieval castle, carved fountains, and a 16th-century pillory. It’s a world apart from the tourist trail, but perfect for a leisurely afternoon stroll.

The wider region also includes the “schist villages” (Aldeias do Xisto), artisanal workshops, and a culinary heritage that ranges from goat cheese and olive oil to chestnuts, honey, and, of course, cherries in all their forms.

The nearest restaurant is 4 kilometers away, and there are many more in Fundão itself (about 10 km away).

Who is Terras do Salvado for?

Terras do Salvado is for you if you’re consciously choosing to slow down. If you’re a couple looking to catch your breath, or a family wanting to truly be together, without distractions. And for the solo traveler who’s ready for some reflection. Or if you simply want to sleep, eat, and wake up surrounded by beautiful nature.

Guests particularly appreciate the comfort, cleanliness, staff, and value for money: this is a place that delivers on its promises.
